Stop. Stop this now. You, sir, are a menace

Ok. This is now how I’ll imagine JB in all the Modern AU fan fiction out there.

Best BC picture EVER.

This makes me weep.

I hope she and her parents survived. What a sweet little thing.

BATES: I’ve lived in such a fog of misery since I left you, I think I’ve forgotten what happiness is.

[Another classic example of the Bates maneuver. He chose that spot because he knew she’d eventually have to go through that door, giving him the opportunity to both be a gentleman, opening said door, and to talk to her. He then tried to look casual while he thought about what he’d say, selecting his words so as to have something beautiful to tell her. I mean, I know Mr. Bates is a poetic soul but… “fog of misery”? As much as I love it and think it’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever said to her, I also know nobody talks (or talked) like that. - And I swear I thought he’d kiss her right then and there.]

Love this comment, but I disagree about “fog of misery” — that’s a perfectly reasonable phrase for the time, even now, especially for someone who is as careful about words as Bates is.
